SD- Mt. Rushmore (2017)
Last year I visited four National Parks (Great Smoky Mountains, Mount Rainier, Olympic and Acadia) one by one and it took more than three months. This year I tried five parks (Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Bryce Canyon, Zion and Grand Canyon) at a stretch in a two week period using Cosmos Bus Tour. A bonus for this trip is the additional attractions in the category of national monuments, memorials and wild west cities. We covered interesting sites such as Crazy Horse (a hero of native Indians) Memorial, Tatanka- the bison museum and the museum of Lakota people, spectacular Devil’s Tower and the wonderful Glen Canyon. We got to see the inspiration behind western movies in the western towns of Deadwood, Cody and Jackson. We also drove through Route 66, mother of all roads in USA, in the historic town of Williams. We stopped at the Mormon church in Salt Lake City and had a brief encounter with one arm bandit in Las Vegas. The tour of South West US is bubbling with history and geology. Cosmos organized the tour well.
This album is devoted to Mount Rushmore National Memorial, South Dakota. As you know it is a shrine for four Presidents. The size of the monument is amazing. More amazing is the dedication and hard work of the sculptor, his son and the 400 men who worked tirelessly for 14 years. It is a great art standing on the shoulders of engineering and explosives. While the figures represent American character, the art reflects American ingenuity.
